How We Align with the UN 17 Sustainable Development Goals

January 14, 2025

At Greetwell Purchasing Solutions, sustainability and the planet’s well-being are at the heart of everything we do. As a Carbon Neutral company, we are committed to making a positive impact on the world. Through supporting the local community and charities, we are always striving to make a difference. One of the frameworks we believe in is the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s).

Established in 2015, they provide a universal framework to address global challenges and drive meaningful change! All 193 UN Member States unanimously signed up until 2030. The agreement includes a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all.

At Greetwell, we are proud to align with several of these goals through our work in food procurement, sustainability, and cost efficiency, take a look how:

Goal 2: Zero Hunger

We are committed to combating hunger and promoting food security by supporting our clients in sourcing the more nutritious and affordable food options. One of our particular focuses is on the care home sector, where malnutrition is an issue, with over 55% of residents at risk in the UK (BAPEN, 2023 https://www.bapen.org.uk/pdfs/reports/mag/national-survey-of-malnutrition-and-nutritional-care-2022.pdf). By providing carefully designed and balanced menu solutions, we promote the right levels of nourishment to support the elderly. Claire Baseley, a registered nutritionist with years of experience supporting care home catering teams, actively approves our menu to ensure the best nutritional offerings for residents.

Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being

The importance food has in maintaining both physical and mental health is huge and we strive to supply our clients with balanced, health-conscious meal plans tailored to their consumers. Catering to dietary restrictions, supporting health through nutritious meals or ensuring that elderly receive adequate nutrition, we work with our clients, so their food offerings contribute to the overall well-being of their residents.

Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth

Ethical business practices are at the core of our values, extending beyond the office to the labour standards upheld by our suppliers. Partnering with a network of national and local suppliers, we prioritise fair labour practices, safe working conditions, and equitable wages. By having strong relationships with these companies and communities, we contribute to a fairer, more equitable global economy.

Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production

At our core, sustainability is our focus. We try our best to reduce food waste through helping clients adopt sustainable procurement practices to reduce food waste. Through better sourcing, portion control, and waste strategies, we help our clients make more eco-conscious choices. While this is inline with the goals, it also helps our clients reduce costs and improve efficiency in their food operations making for a more sustainable food system.

Goal 13: Climate Action

We don’t just stop at being carbon neutral certified, we take steps in supporting climate-positive initiatives. Through our participation in 1% for the Planet, we contribute to different environmental partners each year. Previously supporting marine life and humanitarian aid initiatives. We aim to lead by example and inspire our clients and suppliers to make positive contributions and make a difference!

Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals

Collaboration is a key factor in achieving the SDG’s. At Greetwell we are dedicated to building strong lasting relationships with clients and supplies to ensure we are all working together. We strive to build these partnerships while staying committed to the goals and build a brighter future for all!
